CAA (Non-Military)

What is it?

Career Advancement Accounts (CAAs), a program developed by the Department of Labor, includes self-managed accounts that enable individuals in need of new skills to receive funds to pay for expenses related to training and education.

Displaced workers can use funds from these accounts to cover the costs of improving their job skills, such as tuition, books and fees, and facilitate a return to the workforce.

Who is it for?

Career Advancement Accounts (CAAs) are available for all unemployed workers and workers who are at risk of losing their jobs.

How do I determine if I qualify?

CAAs eligibility requirements include individuals that are:

  • 18 years of age or over
  • A U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S
  • Properly registered for Selective Service
  • Laid off through no fault of their own due to plant closure or individual layoff
  • At risk of layoff and is categorized as an incumbent worker
  • A displaced homemaker
